Friday, Jan. 5, 7:30 p.m.: Godby (7-3) vs. Rickards (9-4)
When it comes to Godby vs. Rickards in any sport, you don't have to say much to sell the game. Now add in two programs in red-hot form on the basketball court, and this already special game gets even better.
The Cougars are flying under first-year head coach Alex Williams, who is in his first season coaching high school basketball after leading the FAMU DRS football program. Winning three of the last five games ahead of the matchup with Rickards, Godby are on a hot run led by sophomore Jaden Staten (12.8 points per game) and junior Mekhi Butler (13.6 points per game), the team's top two scorers.
On the opposite side of the court, Rickards is in hot form and looking to end a two-game losing streak. Even with the losses, the Raiders are hot and could be in good shape to get back in the win column against rivals Godby. Led by a trio of senior Randall Pompey (14.6 points per game), junior Benjamin Plummer (11.1 points per game) and sophomore Calvin Thomas (11.3 points per game), Rickards has three difference makers on the court.
Saturday, Jan. 20, 7:30 p.m.: Munroe (10-4) vs. Crossroad Academy (9-4)
It's the battle of Quincy as the two area programs go head-to-head in a primetime Saturday night showdown. The Scorpions are finding form under first-year head coach Colin Anderson and the Bobcats are once against proving to be one of the area's elite teams, making this a mouthwatering matchup.
Known for its basketball program, Crossroad Academy is looking for a deep postseason run and the game against Munroe is a good test for that. Led by top-scoring senior guard Ja'Mari Favors (15.5 points per game) and paint-protecting senior Rayln Dawkins (2.3 blocks per game), the Scorpions are off to a good start to life under Anderson.
The Bobcats are one of the area's top teams and one of the best in the 2A classification. Looking like a team to compete for the 2A state title, Munroe has been getting big-time contributions from seniors Karlton Knight (14.8 points per game), Leith Kenon (11.2 points per game) and junior Zy Reese (12.3 points per game). If the Bobcat's high-scoring trio keeps its form, the matchup with Crossroad is sure to be a must-watch.
Tuesday, Jan. 23, 7 p.m.: Rickards (9-4) vs. Florida High (8-7)
Another heavy-weight battle between two of the area's top programs, clear your schedule for this rematch between Florida High and Rickards. The two met early in the season, where the Seminoles handed the Raiders the first loss of the season in a 69-64 victory.
The Seminoles have played a gauntlet of a schedule so far, facing some of the top teams in Florida and other states in an effort to prepare for a deep run into the playoffs. The battle with Rickards will fit that criteria, as the Raiders are one of the top teams in the area and in the 5A classification. Led by seniors Dakota Morris (13.7 points per game) and Terrell Baker (9.1 points per game, 5.3 assists per game), the Seminoles are a dynamic team with a roster full of players ready to step up.
The Raiders will be looking to avenge its early season loss to Florida High as its road to the playoffs faces another big test. A win for Rickards would serve as a huge boost for the team heading into the district tournament.

A slate of action you won't want to miss, these girls basketball games are some of the top matchups for area programs before the postseason gets underway.
Thursday, Jan. 18, 6 p.m.: Godby (9-3) vs. Madison County (8-3)
A matchup of two of the area's most elite programs, this will be a rematch of a thrilling early season game between two programs with big aspirations. The Cowboys bested the Cougars 59-55 in late November, but Godby has just lost two games in that time, making this matchup a must-see.
While being a young roster, Godby plays with confidence beyond it's years. Sophomore Kenjiah Clayton has been a star for the Cougars, leading the team in scoring with 9.8 points per game, 2.5 assists and 4.9 steals per game. Clayton has been the key for Godby this season and her play will be crucial for the rematch against Madison County and for the goals of the program.
Madison County is once again one of the top teams in the area and in 1A and are looking for another big win over Godby. Led by superstar senior Janiyah McKnight, who is averaging 25.3 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game and 5.1 steals per game. With the Raiders always having aspirations of raising a state title banner, there are no easy games. Facing a tough Tigers team, Rickards will look to star junior Genisis Herny (14.1 points per game) and sophomore standout Amirahs Hayes (8.6 points per game).
Playoffs will be right around the corner when this game is tipped off and it will be a good test for the Raiders to see how they stack up against some strong out-of-area talent as the program hopes for a long postseason run.
Thursday, Jan. 18, 7 p.m.: Lincoln (10-3) vs. Florida High (5-9)
A matchup between two of the area's most competitive programs, this rematch has blockbuster potential. The Trojans beat the Seminoles in the first matchup of the season, winning 51-44 in an early December showdown.
It hasn't been the season Florida High would have wanted to this point, but the team remains a competitive one playing through a tough schedule. After a season sweep of Lincoln in the 2022-23 season, the Seminoles are looking to get back in the win column against Lincoln, and junior Emilie Robertson (12.4 points per game), and senior Micah Evora (10.6 points per game), will be the key figures for the Seminoles to pick up a win and turn things around.
On the flip side, the Trojans are rolling, picking up wins in seven of the last eight games to this point of the season. Led by the senior and sophomore duo of Jamia Brown (13.2 points per game) and Jamiya Brown (12.8 points per game), Lincoln are looking to finish with its first winning season since 2019, where it finished 24-4. Picking up a season sweep over the Seminoles would be a huge boost for the program that could make some postseason waves.
