MTSU football has four former players on Super Bowl 58 rosters for Chiefs vs 49ers
Middle Tennessee State football will be well represented in Super Bowl 58 on Feb. 11 in Las Vegas.
Four former Blue Raiders are on Super Bowl rosters, with three on the Kansas City Chiefs roster − Darius Harris (played for MTSU from 2015-18), Richie James (2015-17) and Izaiah Gathings (2021-22) − while Charvarius Ward (2016-17) is a member of the San Francisco 49ers.
This will be Ward's third Super Bowl and an opportunity to win his second with two different squads. He was a member of the Kansas City team that won Super Bowl 54 and was on the Chiefs team that reached Super Bowl 55.
The 6-foot-1, 196-pound Ward, a starting cornerback and seven-year pro, has 72 tackles, five interceptions and a forced fumble this season. He had one tackle in a 34-31 win over Detroit in the NFC Championship Game.
The 5-9, 185-pound James, a sixth-year pro, has 10 receptions for 114 yards this season. The wide receiver had one target but no receptions in the Chiefs' 17-10 win over Baltimore in the AFC Championship Game.
The 6-2, 238-pound Harris, a fourth-year pro who spent his first three seasons in Kansas City, was added back to the Chiefs' roster off the Las Vegas practice squad in late October and made five regular-season appearances. The linebacker was on the team's active roster in the AFC Championship game. He recorded 43 tackles for the Chiefs in 2022.
Rookie wide receiver Izaiah Gathings is on the Chiefs' practice squad.
Former Blackman, Vols star Jauan Jennings to play in first Super Bowl
Murfreesboro will also be represented in the Super Bowl with former Blackman and Tennessee star Jauan Jennings playing with the 49ers.
Jennings was drafted in the seventh round by San Francisco in 2020, just months after it last appeared in a Super Bowl.
Jennings had one reception for eight yards in the AFC Championship. For the season he has 19 receptions for 265 yards and a touchdown. He has 78 receptions for 963 yards and seven TDs over his three seasons.
