Most points dropped from winning positions by Premier League clubs so far this season
It happened again. Brentford dropped points in a Premier League game, but this time it was more painful than ever.
The Bees led Fulham from the 24th minute of their clash at Craven Cottage on Monday night thanks to Vitaly Janelt’s stunning strike from range.
Thomas Frank’s side defended deeply for the rest of the game as they frustrated their west London rivals, who couldn’t find a way to goal.
That was until the 92nd minute when super sub Harry Wilson equalised with a delicious flick that looped over the head of helpless goalkeeper Mark Flekken.
The Welsh winger struck again moments later when he met Antonee Robinson’s cross with a diving header, breaking the hearts of the visiting supporters right at the death.

It’s a familiar story for Brentford, who can’t seem to stop dropping points this season. They are the antithesis to Liverpool, who have managed to not drop any points from winning positions under new manager Arne Slot.
They aren’t the only side to repeatedly capitulate after going ahead (including Fulham, funnily enough), but they are the worst for it.

5. Arsenal – 6
The Gunners have already dropped 12 points this season, half of which came from winning positions, including their 2-2 draw with Manchester City. If Arsenal don’t win the Premier League this season, that statistic could be one of the key reasons why.
4. Nottingham Forest – 8
Nuno Espirito Santo has done an exceptional job with Nottingham Forest this season, taking them into the top three for the first time since 1998. It’s made all the more impressive that they have dropped eight points from winning positions, having scored first in nine out of ten games. If they had held on in those matches, they would be top of the table right now.
=2. Fulham – 10
The Cottagers finally got the opportunity to inflict on someone else what has been happening too often to them this season. Against both Everton and West Ham they conceded stoppage time equalisers after being the better team, while they also led against Aston Villa and City only to lose.
Marco Silva has the Cottagers performing superbly this year, but if he can get them to hold onto leads (they’ve scored the first goal seven times) then they could be challenging for Europe.
=2. Brighton – 10
Brighton have been a fun a team to watch this season, but they have been one of the worst offenders for dropping points, having gone ahead six times. It’s now happened on consecutive weekends as Liverpool came from behind to win 2-1 at Anfield, while the Seagulls somehow drew with Wolves a week prior despite having a two-lead in the 85th minute. They also dropped points to Forest and Chelsea after going ahead.

1. Brentford – 14
In September Brentford set a new Premier League record after scoring in the first minute of three consecutive games, which was great. Less great was the fact they failed to win any of those matches against Man City, Spurs and West Ham. They’ve scored the first goal against Manchester United and, of course, Fulham, but lost both matches 2-1.
Those dropped points are the difference between being 12th in the table and first. Oof.
