More change at the top in the SEC Power Rankings after Week 12
We're already through 12 weeks of SEC Football during the 2024 college football season. The conference standings have become a collage of similarity, as the Texas Longhorns are now tied with Texas A&M at 5-1 in SEC play. However, South Carolina has continued its winning streak and could end the season at 9-3.
Texas A&M came off the bye week looking to dominate at home vs. New Mexico State. While quarterback Marcel Reed's running ability is certainly a stark advantage, this game was always meant to provide the redshirt freshman more passing reps to gain consistency through the air. In three quarters, Reed completed 20/31 for 268 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, including a rushing score.
While his timing was better, Reed's downfield accuracy is still a work in progress, but it's clear that he will continue to be the starter for the rest of the season.
Around the rest of the SEC, Georgia's home test vs. Tennessee was the biggest and most consequential game on the weekend, causing more chaos in the College Football Playoff conversation.
