Missouri football star Luther Burden III receives another preseason All-American nod

Another list, another honor for Missouri football star Luther Burden III.

The Mizzou wide receiver was named a first-team preseason All-American by the Associated Press on Monday, adding to his already expansive list of preseason accolades.

So far this preseason, Burden has been voted as a first-team All-SEC and first-team All-American wideout by USA Today. He is on both ESPN and The Athletic’s preseason first-team All-American lists, and was included on watch lists for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation’s top wide receiver, and the Maxwell Award, given to the most outstanding player in college football. At SEC media days in July, he was named among the conference’s preseason first-team nominees by the league's media.

In short: If there’s a list — and there are plenty — Burden is probably on it.

The AP put him in the first-team offense alongside Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan and Ohio State’s Emeka Egbuka. In total, 10 SEC players made it onto the preseason first team, which was the most of any conference.

Last season, Burden caught 1,212 yards worth of passes for nine touchdowns as the Tigers went 11-2 and defeated Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl — a win sealed with a fourth-quarter Burden touchdown reception at the back edge of the end zone. The wide receiver finished the year as a Biletnikoff Award semifinalist, a second-team AP All-American and on both the coaches and AP All-SEC first team.

The former five-star prospect out of East St. Louis High is widely expected to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft at the end of this season, which will be his third in Columbia. Current mocks project that Burden is likely to hear his name called in the first round, with some top-10 buzz also circulating.

MU fans will get their first chance to see Burden and the No. 11-ranked Tigers when Eli Drinkwitz’s team begins its season Thursday, Aug. 29, at home against Murray State. The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m. and will air on SEC Network.
