Mississippi State's Sam Purcell has incredible reaction to Darrione Rogers dagger vs. LSU

Mississippi State coach Sam Purcell dreamt of the moment that his Bulldogs pulled off Monday night inside Humphrey Coliseum against No. 9 LSU. It just took some time and magic.

With 1:14 left to go in the fourth quarter and up 70-67 over the Tigers, the Bulldogs (17-5, 4-3 in SEC play) were on the cusp of securing their statement win — but still needed a dagger. Enter DePaul transfer guard Darrione Rogers, who scored nine of the Bulldogs' 14 fourth-quarter points.

She went swish on a deep 3-pointer with seconds winding down on the shot clock that got this reaction from Purcell:

Here's another look at Purcell's reaction:

“She lives for these moments,” Purcell said of Rogers after the game. “She’s from Chicago so there’s a certain swag about her and DNA that’s in that kid’s body. … She didn’t panic (in that moment).”

With that, Mississippi State was able to ride out a 77-73 victory Kim Mulkey's LSU team (18-4, 5-3). It was Purcell's first top-10 victory as the Bulldogs' coach and the program's first since the 2017-18 season.

“I am a man of words but I am speechless in multiple ways,” Purcell said of Mississippi State’s win over the reigning national champions. “This is … the moment that I wanted to come here (for). I know the history that’s been done before me but I just sell to everybody including these players who give me a chance but most importantly give us a chance together.”

He added: “For us to have a night (like tonight) is special … I keep referring back to those moments when I watched South Carolina and Mississippi State. I was in awe and tonight was that night for somebody else to watch across the country.”
