STARKVILLE — Mississippi State women’s basketball and assistant coach Murriel Page have parted ways, a source with knowledge of the move told the Clarion Ledger.
The source requested anonymity as the moves have not been officially announced by MSU.
Fred Castro has emerged as a top candidate to replace Page, per the source. Castro was fired by Eastern Michigan in December in the midst of his eighth season as the program’s head coach.
Mississippi State also could move into next season without assistant coach Corry Irvin. The Illinois native has emerged as a top candidate for the Chicago State head coaching vacancy, per the source, though a hire hasn't been made yet.
Irvin and Page have been on coach Sam Purcell’s staff since he was hired at Mississippi State after the 2021-22 season. Gabe Lazo, who was also brought in as part of Purcell’s first staff, is expected to return for a third season.
Mississippi State could also be adding a WNBA player to its staff in a move similar to Florida’s addition of Rhyne Howard. Among potential candidates, Victoria Vivians is a name worth watching, per source.
Vivians was waived by the Indiana Fever in March and signed with the Seattle Storm shortly after. She spent six seasons with the Fever after a storied career at Mississippi State.
With the Bulldogs, Vivians made two national championship appearances under coach Vic Schaefer. She’s a product of Carthage, Mississippi, who attended Scott Central High School.
