How Mississippi State baseball pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje fared at Alabama
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Mississippi State baseball freshman pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje pitched exclusively with his right hand in Friday's game against Alabama, marking his second consecutive start where the switch-pitcher was limited.
Although he usually wears a glove that can be worn on both hands to allow him to easily flip, the freshman wore a right-hander's glove in Tuscaloosa.
He was pulled after just two innings of work, where he allowed five runs on 48 pitches. Cijntje walked five batters, allowed two hits and struck out two.
"Just trying to be a little bit more consistent, I think," coach Chris Lemonis said of the move to right-handed pitching. "It's just really hard to do both. I don't think people realize the amount of time and effort you have to do to keep both arms sharp."

Cijntje pitched exclusively with his right hand last week in Starkville against South Carolina. Against the Gamecocks, he went five innings and allowed three runs, receiving a no-decision.
Prior to the last two outings, Cijntje often switched hands to matchup with the hitter. He earned his first start against University of Louisiana Monroe on Feb. 22. He cracked the weekend rotation on March 3 when facing Ohio State in Frisco, Texas.
Cijntje's ERA jumped to 5.76 after the rough outing vs. Alabama. He has now struck out 41 batters and walked 22 in 29⅔ innings.
