Mississippi State baseball live score updates vs Vanderbilt: Bulldogs vs Commodores in SEC series

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Riding a five-game winning streak, Mississippi State baseball enters a weekend series at Vanderbilt looking to extend its winning ways.

It won't be an easy task. The Commodores (30-11, 10-8 SEC) enter the weekend having won four of their last five. That includes a series win at home against Florida last week, though Vanderbilt couldn't complete the sweep on Sunday.

Mississippi State's rise in momentum came after a series loss against rival Ole Miss. The Bulldogs (27-14, 10-8) responded with a midweek win against Alcorn State before sweeping Auburn and getting a win at Memphis on Tuesday.

Along with five strong innings from starter Brooks Auger, MSU jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Vanderbilt got it within a run in the eighth inning, but a pair of insurance runs for Mississippi State in the ninth helped even the series.

Game 3: Mississippi State 8, Vanderbilt 7

The finale was wild. Mississippi State jumped out to a 6-0 lead, fueled by home runs from Logan Kohler and David Mershon. However, Vanderbilt tied the game with a six-run sixth, highlighted by a three-run shot from Troy LaNeve to tie it. The Commodores took the lead in the seventh. However, with two outs in the ninth inning, Hines launched a two-run home run to regain the lead. Right-handed pitcher Tyson Hardin sealed the victory with a clean final frame.
