We don’t need to tell you that Minor League Baseball is home to some of the most creative marketing minds in professional sports. They might have, however, outdone themselves with what they announced Tuesday.

MiLB has created the Copa de la Diversión (or “Fun Cup” in English), which is a celebration of the intersection of baseball and Latino communities in the U.S. Basically: 33 teams in Minor League Baseball now have Latino-inspired alter egos that they’ll play as for select games during the 2018 season. For in-play purposes, there’s a three-foot trophy that will travel around to the 19 different states involved in the Copa Cup.

What really makes this great is the team names, logos and uniforms. For example, during Copa Cup play, the Albuquerque Isotopes will become New Mexico Mariachis. The Brooklyn Cyclones will be the Brooklyn Jefes. The Round Rock Express will be the Round Rock Chupacabras. The Corpus Christi Hooks will be the Corpus Christi Raspas and so on.

The best one? The San Antonio Missions will become the San Antonio Flying Chanclas — or flying sandals, which was the disciplinary weapon for many a Mexican mother, grandmother or tia.
