Milwaukee Bucks set to sign point guard Cam Payne to bolster depth
The Milwaukee Bucks wasted little time in once again filling out their 15 guaranteed roster spots, with the Journal Sentinel confirming the team agreed to sign veteran point guard Cameron Payne to a one-year minimum deal. Payne was on the market after being waived by San Antonio on Sept. 11. He never played for the Spurs, but was part of a salary cap deal that saw the Suns trade him and cash for draft picks.
A roster spot opened when the Bucks traded Jrue Holiday to Portland and Grayson Allen to Phoenix for all-NBA point guard Damian Lillard on Sept. 27.
The Athletic initially reported the agreement.
Payne, 29, is entering his ninth season and was a free agent after spending the last four seasons in Phoenix. While with the Suns, Payne came off the bench in 146 of his 174 games and averaged 9.8 points and 4.2 assists per game. He shot 38.4% from behind the three-point line while with the Suns.

He was a big part of the Finals team that lost to the Bucks in 2021, as he played in 22 playoff games in that run. He was also a big part of the Thunder's 2016 run to the Western Conference Finals.
The No. 14 pick in the 2015 draft by Oklahoma City, Payne spent time with the Thunder, Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers before finding a home in Phoenix in the 2019-20 season.
