Mike Trout to miss up to 2 months with calf injury
Mike Trout was placed on the injured list and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks with a calf strain, the Los Angeles Angels announced Tuesday.
Trout sustained the injury in the first inning of Monday's game against Cleveland. He pulled up limping while running the base paths on a popup and exited the game. He was slated for an MRI on Tuesday that revealed the calf strain.
Trout didn't speak with reporters Monday after suffering the injury. Manager Joe Maddon said he was caught off guard when Trout had to leave the game.
“I saw nothing,” Maddon said. “I just looked up, and he was kind of limping to the third-base bag. I was wondering what happened."
Can Angels salvage season with Trout's extended absence?
A perennial All-Star, Trout was off to another MVP-caliber start to the season, slashing .333/.466/.624 with eight home runs, 18 RBIs and two stolen bases in 36 games. The 29-year-old outfielder has won three AL MVP awards in 10 seasons with the Angels.
The loss is tough blow for the Angels, who have struggled to an 18-22 start despite rostering a pair of MVP candidates in Trout and Shohei Ohtani.
