Fans react to Miguel Cabrera's arrival at Tigers spring training: 'Best shape of his life'

After saying goodbye just a few months ago, a baseball legend is back on the diamond. Just in a different role this time.

Longtime Detroit Tigers slugger and future Hall of Famer Miguel Cabrera retired in October with a memorable final sign-off on a sunny day at Comerica Park.

Shortly before Cabrera's final game, the Tigers announced that Cabrera was going to stay with the team as a special assistant to Scott Harris, the team's president of baseball operations.

No one was really sure exactly what the role would entail, but without fail, Cabrera showed back up in Lakeland, Florida for the 17th consecutive season.

Free Press Tigers beat writer Evan Petzold was holding one of the many cameras that caught Cabrera on video Tuesday morning.

If you didn't know any better, you could've easily mistaken Cabrera as preparing for his 22nd MLB season as he was wearing the same gear as many of the players and taking infield practice at first base alongside his former teammate, Spencer Torkelson.

Many fans on social media made the same joke, saying Cabrera looks like "he's in the best shape of his life," poking fun at the old trope that often seemed to pop up around spring training.
