The annual clash between Michigan football and Michigan State is one of a dozen traditional rivalry games protected by the Big Ten Conference in the newly expanded league and we now know exactly when the 2024 iteration will take place.

The Big Ten announced Monday the No. 22 Wolverines (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten) will host their rival Spartans (3-3, 1-2 Big Ten) on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. on Big Ten Network in Week 9. Michigan, which lost the last time it took the field in Week 6, is coming off of a bye this week and scheduled to face No. 21 Illinois while MSU, also coming off a bye, will host Iowa which has only lost twice, both to teams ranked in the top-13 in Iowa State and Ohio State.

The last time these teams met, Michigan absolutely dismantled Michigan State, marching up to East Lansing and winning the game 49-0; the largest shutout in the rivalry in more than 50 years. Of course, there's been hooplah surrounding the game in the past two meetings, as well. Last season when U-M traveled to Michigan State, it was just a handful of days after news first broke of an alleged illegal sign stealing scheme, which turned out to steal the spotlight much of the rest of the season.

The year before, in 2022, U-M beat MSU 29-7 at the Big House, which was soon overshadowed by a kerfuffle in the Lloyd Carr tunnel, when handfuls of Michigan State athletes got into separate fights with individual Michigan players. A number were suspended for the remainder of the season and seven players were charged with misdemeanor offenses.
