Michigan State basketball eliminated from Big Ten tournament as Purdue hangs on, 67-62

MINNEAPOLIS — Michigan State basketball once again did not have enough to overcome reigning national player of the year Zach Edey and the Purdue Boilermakers Friday, losing 67-62 in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals.

The Spartans struggled mightily to defend Edey without racking up fouls. They were eventually able to slow down Edey slightly after a red-hot start, but Purdue had late answers.

Edey finished the day with 29 points and 12 rebounds as he fought through all the different types of defenses that the Spartans threw at him.

The Spartans will now wait to see their fate in the NCAA tournament when the field is announced Sunday afternoon.

MSU should be a lock for an at-large bid into a 26th consecutive NCAA tournament when the bracket is revealed Sunday evening.

They are currently projected to be either a 9-seed by USA TODAY or 10-seed by ESPN.
