Michigan football may have suffered another big injury setback.

All-American cornerback Will Johnson suffered a left toe injury Saturday in the first half against Illinois (live updates), according to the CBS broadcast. Johnson came out on Michigan's first defensive possession and has yet to return as of halftime.

"At the end of the first quarter, he came off the field, went straight into the injury tent," CBS sideline reporter Jenny Dell said. "They changed out his shoes, his orthotics guys, keep an eye on that left ankle when he does go back in."

Dell to open the third quarter estimated Johnson was questionable to return for the second half.

Johnson missed one game this season against Minnesota and left the USC game early with a shoulder injury. He is a key cog to Michigan's disruptive defense with lockdown coverage and has two interceptions, both returned for touchdowns, in five games. He is a projected top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
