Michigan basketball hires Dusty May: Social media reacts to FAU coach leaving for Wolverines
Michigan basketball has its next coach.
The Wolverines have agreed to a deal with Florida Atlantic coach Dusty May for their coach opening, the Detroit Free Press confirmed on Saturday night. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski was first to report the move.

May, who recently fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament with the Owls, led FAU to the Final Four last season. May nearly led Florida Atlantic to the national championship game before San Diego State hit a game-winning shot at the buzzer.
May finishes his Florida Atlantic career with a 126-69 record in six seasons at the helm, including a 35-4 finish in 2022-23.
"May became swept away with the alumni network and its fierce loyalty to the university and athletics, sources said," Wojnarowski posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. "His belief is that that will help transcend some of the inherently transactional nature of the modern NIL/transfer portal era in recruiting and player retention."
Michigan fired former coach Juwan Howard on March 15, after the Wolverines finished with an 8-24 record in Howard's fifth season with the program. Michigan has also missed the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons.

FAU’s Dusty May had been linked to the open role at Ohio State. If true, this is yet another Michigan win over OSU. https://t.co/LBYsNi9oSb

Getting a Woj bomb that your school is now sent back into irrelevancy for the rest of your life has to be one of the worst things you could encounter in life

Wow. Dusty picks Michigan.
Now, we wait and see where Louisville pivots. Not entirely convinced there’s a good answer at the moment. https://t.co/kdkp8jLDBa— Kevin Sweeney (@CBB_Central) March 24, 2024

During our Inside College Basketball show early this morning, we debated where Dusty May will coach next season. @CWalkerSports called it 👀

Dusty May was the top name on the board at multiple openings. He had his pick of Michigan, Louisville and Vanderbilt — which was in deeper than most people think. But he’s off to replace Juwan Howard in Ann Arbor. Big win for Warde Manuel. And now where does Louisville turn?

This is a win for Warde Manuel and Michigan. Dusty May’s name was all over multiple searches, and here’s the fact: FAU had next to no hoops history with just one NCAAT appearance in 2002 before last season. 60-13 in last two years, a Final Four, two big dances. Remarkable rise.
