Michigan basketball adds Power Five home-and-home series against TCU, starting in November

The Michigan basketball schedule continues to trickle out and it now includes a high-major matchup at home on a Friday night.

The program announced Thursday that it had scheduled a home-and-home series against TCU: The first game will be in Ann Arbor on Nov. 15 with the Wolverines returning the trip to Fort Worth, Texas, at a yet-to-be-announced date in the 2025-26 season.

There's little history between these two programs: an 82-60 Michigan victory in Ann Arbor on Dec. 13, 1962, propelled U-M to a 3-1 record.

According to Michigan Daily digital archives, sophomore center Bill Bentley scored 19 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to lead the way for U-M, followed by John Harris with 17 points and 12 rebounds and captain Tom Cole who scored 13.

TCU is led by eighth year coach Jamie Dixon, who was inducted into his alma mater's Hall of Fame back in 2007. There is one player there familiar to U-M: The Horned Frogs recently landed via the transfer portal former Arizona State point guard Frankie Collins, who began his career in 2021 in Ann Arbor under Juwan Howard.

TCU, like Michigan (although there wasn't a coaching change), had a massive roster overhaul after losing 11 of 17 players from last year's team, including all four of the team's double-digit scorers.

The Horned Frogs are expected to be led this season not just by Collins, but a trio of transfers: Noah Reynolds, who led Green Bay in scoring last season (20 points per game) while averaging 3.7 rebounds; Vasean Allette, who led Old Dominion in scoring (17.4 points and 5.7 rebounds) and Brendan Wenzel, who averaged 11.6 points and 5.1 rebounds last season with Wyoming.

Michigan has one other Power Five nonconference matchup scheduled for next season, according to reports that U-M and Wake Forest will play a neutral site game in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Nov. 10.

U-M and TCU met in the College Football Playoff semifinal game in the 2022 Fiesta Bowl, with U-M falling, 51-45. Michigan footbal has not lost a game since.
