Miami Dolphins vs. Washington Commanders joint practice: 5 Matchups To Watch

MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Dolphins are hosting the Washington Commanders for a joint practice at Baptist Health on Thursday morning, two days ahead of Preseason Week 2.

Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Jalen Ramsey are challenging Jayden Daniels, Austin Ekeler, Terry McLaurin and Bobby Wagner.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, an offensive mastermind, and Washington coach Dan Quinn, a defensive guru, will match wits in practice.

Washington was 4-13 last season and pretty terrible at pretty much everything.

Here are Dolphins vs. Commanders matchups to watch

Washington QB Jayden Daniels vs. S Jevon Holland

Look, we realize it's Daniels, the rookie and No. 2 overall pick, vs. Miami's entire defense. And we realize Daniels may have to go through star cornerback Jalen Ramsey. But we've seen Holland take advantage of youthful opposing quarterbacks before, and we see at least one interception in Holland's future.

Dolphins CB Kendall Fuller vs. Commanders WR Terry McLaurin

It's possible that McLaurin is covered by another cornerback, such as Ramsey. But Fuller played for Washington last season and we'll guess he'd like a few shots at his former teammate, and their top wide receiver.

Dolphins C Liam Eichenberg vs. Commanders DT Jonathan Allen

Eichenberg is Miami's center, at least until Aaron Brewer returns. Brewer is week-to-week with an apparent hand injury. So, how does Eichenberg handle himself against Allen and Daron Payne on the inside? Those players are a strength of the Washington defense, which was 32nd in the NFL last season.

Dolphins LT Patrick Paul vs. Commanders DE Dorance Armstrong

When the rookie Paul comes into the lineup for the Pro Bowler Terron Armstead, Armstrong should pose a decent challenge. If you're unfamiliar with Armstrong's game, the Commanders gave him three years, $33 million to leave the Cowboys because he's had 16 total sacks in the past two seasons.

Dolphins edge Chop Robinson vs. Commanders RT Andrew Wylie

Chop often rushed against the opposing right tackle while playing at Penn State. We'll hope the rookie and Maryland native is healthy enough to practice and play this week. Wylie has missed some practice time with muscle tightness. Wylie allowed eight sacks and 34 pressures last season, according to Pro Football Focus.
