Miami Dolphins updates: Joint practice vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tyreek Hill injury news

TAMPA - The Miami Dolphins traveled to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a joint practice on Wednesday morning that will conclude the training camp practice portion of the summer.

Tua Tagovailoa and coach Mike McDaniel are challenging Baker Mayfield and Todd Bowles.

Miami Dolphins practice updates: Tyreek Hill injury

  • Mike McDaniel said Tyreek Hill could practice and play theoretically but they’ll be cautious with a thumb injury and so nothing in team work today. Mike jokes he played thumb war with Tyreek.

  • Tyreek was not wearing the brace on his hand he had in a previous practice.

  • Mike says some starters will play and other won’t on Friday night. For the majority of the starters, that makes today a big practice.

  • Growth and demonstrating positivity amid turmoil are the keys for backup quarterbacks Mike White and Skylar Thompson in today’s practice. Mike also indicated both will play Friday.

  • Tua is a “freakish” learner, Mike says. One of Tua’s top four goals was mobility and extending plays thorough fitness goals and he has done that.

  • Mike feels good about the top players on the offensive line. But there are still some spots to be settled.

Highlights from Miami Dolphins vs. Tampa Bay Bucs practice

  • Some players who appear to not be participating include: Aaron Brewer, Chris Brooks, River Cracraft and Braylon Sanders.

  • Other players who were not spotted include: Jevon Holland, Anthony Walker and Cam Smith.

  • Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Ethan Bonner and Jalen Ramsey are on the field in uniform and helmets. But Hill did not participate in team work.

  • Jonnu Smith made a great high-point touchdown catch in 1-on-1s. Then he made another very impressive touchdown. Jonnu has really turned it on in recent practices.

  • Jody Fortson caught a TD in 1-on-1s.

  • Tua Tagovailoa’s first pass of 11-on-11 was intercepted.

  • De’Von Achane broke a long run.

  • Erik Ezukanma excelled at 1-on-1s.

  • Tua hit Ezukanma in the middle of the field. Ezukanma is moving toward a roster spot.

  • Tua is warming up. He hits surging Jonnu Smith again.

  • Tua hit Braxton Berrios on a spectacular deep out route. Improved arm strength shown.

  • Tanner Conner was in uniform, which is a good sign in his return from injury.

  • Tua and De’Von Achane connected perfectly on the old wheel route.

  • Skylar Thompson and Julian Hill connected on a short pass.

  • Rookie Chop Robinson had an outstanding rep against tackle Tristan Wirfs, elevated him with power.

  • Veteran defensive lineman Calais Campbell had some strong moments in practice.

  • Rookie safety Patrick McMorris was evaluated by a trainer after a possible lower body injury.

  • Ezukanma was evaluated by trainers after a possible lower body injury.

  • Tua completed a short pass to Achane for a red zone touchdown.

  • Calais Campbell batted down a Baker Mayfield pass in red zone.

  • Safety Mark Perry had an interception for a touchdown.

  • Kendall Fuller and Ethan Bonner were involved in long Bucs passing plays.
