  • Anthony Walker and Jordyn Brooks are "on their way back" from injury. "It's not something I'm worried about."

  • Jordan Poyer "is dealing with something as well." (McDaniel doesn't sound worried about Poyer.)

  • On players such as Tua Tagovailoa getting paid and what it says about the organization: Says it adds to stability. Says he has seen "even more investment into the team" on the part of players who have gotten fresh contracts.

  • Says he never has seen a player as involved in the team as Jalen Ramsey was during his knee rehab last summer. But adds, he's more involved (surprise) when he's out there on the field. "He verbally sets the tonality." Says "he's on a heater right now. Probably the last five practices I've seen him do something I've never seen a player do."

  • On this week's joint practices with the Falcons: "You're going to see a couple of teams really excited to go against someone else. We are at that time."

  • On what he appreciates about his job in Year 3 that he didn't know going in: "I've really got a sense in Year 3, you have more supreme humility to the job. ... I think I have a strong sense on how truly dependent I am on people in the building. ... At this point in my life, I almost can do nothing by myself. I almost can operate a microwave and fill my tank by myself."

  • Says "Inter-squad practices can be the best dress rehearsal for games."

  • On his role in pushing Tagovailoa's talks along (QB credited McDaniel for unlocking the stalemate): "It was probably a little glorified, so to speak, as far as me kicking a door down or anything. Anytime I was asked from the beginning, middle and end ... everyone knew where I stood. I had the consistency of stance and I held it." Adds, "There's a lot of people working on that deal that should get high fives."
