Miami Dolphins cutting edge rusher Emmanuel Ogbah
The Dolphins are releasing veteran pass rusher Emmanuel Ogbah, a league source confirmed Friday.
Ogbah, 30, had 24.5 sacks for Miami in four seasons.
But his role became limited last season. And even though edge rushers Jaelan Phillips (Achilles) and Bradley Chubb (knee) are rehabbing from serious injuries, Ogbah was deemed expendable.
Miami is significantly over the salary cap for 2024.
Ogbah had a projected $17.7 million cap hit. But the cut will save Miami $13.7 million.
Ogbah was not a fit for Vic Fangio’s scheme. And Miami determined the shift to Anthony Weaver’s scheme was not enough to justify that salary.
Miami needs to add edge rushers in the free agency and the draft. They would like to re-sign edge rusher Andrew Van Ginkel, if the price is right.
Miami will next weigh if they want to move on from veteran cornerback Xavien Howard.
