Memphis softball coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro leaves to become Florida's pitching coach

Memphis softball coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro has resigned, the program announced Wednesday.

VanBrakle Prothro will become pitching coach at Florida. She was in charge of the Tigers' program for the last two seasons.

The Tigers went 8-43 in 2023, then followed that up with a 6-44 mark in 2024. VanBrakle Prothro had appeared at a "Tigers on Tour" event with other Memphis coaches as recently as a few weeks ago.

"We thank Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro for her two seasons as Memphis softball head coach and wish her and her family all the best in the future," the program said in a statement. "We will immediately begin a national search for the next leader of the Memphis softball program."

She had a successful run over 12 seasons as the pitching coach at Alabama before coming to Memphis, helping the Crimson Tide win the national championship in 2012. VanBrakle Prothro was previously coach at the now-defunct Birmingham-Southern College in 2009-10, where she went 57-14. She also went 14-40 in one lone season at Samford.

Florida is coming off a 54-15 season.
