Memphis Grizzlies upgrade Brandon Clarke’s injury status for first time this season
Memphis Grizzlies forward/center Brandon Clarke is closing in on making his season debut.
The Grizzlies listed Clarke as doubtful for Monday's game against the Denver Nuggets due to his left Achilles tendon repair. Even though that designation signals it’s unlikely Clarke will play Monday, it’s the first time this season he has been listed as anything other than out.
Clarke tore his left Achilles on March 3, 2023, playing against the Nuggets. He has been in intensive rehab since.
With the Grizzlies out of playoff contention, there were questions at to whether they would shut down Clarke for the season or risk playing him. General manager Zach Kleiman and coach Taylor Jenkins both have indicated that the goal is for Clarke to get reps this season.
Clarke, 27, has averaged 10.7 points and 5.6 rebounds in his first four seasons with the Grizzlies. While playing mostly in a reserve role, he still managed to average double figures in each of his NBA seasons.
If Clarke misses Monday’s game, he will have a stronger chance at making his season debut at home Wednesday against the Los Angeles Lakers.
