Memphis Grizzlies shutting down Jaren Jackson Jr., Desmond Bane for remainder of season
The Memphis Grizzlies already have shut down a number of key players for the season. Add two more names to the list.
Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins revealed Tuesday that Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. are not likely to return this season because of injuries.
Bane is dealing with a lumbar disk bulge in his back that will keep him sidelined for a couple of weeks. Jenkins revealed that Jackson, who has been out due to right quadriceps tendinitis, has been dealing with the injury for a large part of the season.
"Nothing alarming but probably a good chance those guys won't play," Jenkins said.
Jackson and Bane join Marcus Smart, Ja Morant, Derrick Rose and Ziaire Williams as players who have been declared out for the remainder of the season.
Yuta Watanabe and Vince Williams Jr. are two other players who have been out for long stretches. Jenkins said he can't comment on the nature of Watanabe's absence because it is for personal reasons. Williams has been dealing with left patellar tendinitis.
Memphis has four games left, starting with Tuesday night against the San Antonio Spurs. The Grizzlies will end the season on Sunday at FedExForum against the Denver Nuggets (2:30 p.m. CT, Bally Sports Southeast).
