Memphis Grizzlies select Jaylen Wells of Washington State in second round of NBA draft

The Memphis Grizzlies selected Washington State forward Jaylen Wells with the 39th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft on Thursday.

Wells, a 6-foot-8 forward, was one of the best shooters in the Pac-12. He averaged 12.6 points in one season with the Cougars and shot 41.7% on 3-pointers.

Before joining Washington State, Wells spent two seasons playing at Division II Sonoma State. He initially came off the bench for the Cougars before working his way into the starting lineup and never relinquished his spot.

The Grizzlies have been in the market for more shooting, and that's what Wells will should bring. He had 19 games of multiple made 3-pointers last season.

Wells will need more experience as a playmaker, but he had the lowest turnover percentage in the Pac-12. He also had the second best offensive rating in the conference.

Wells joins center Zach Edey as the first two members of the Grizzlies rookie class. Memphis also owns the 57th pick in the draft.
