Who will Memphis Grizzlies pick in first round of NBA draft? Here's what experts believe

The NBA draft is here and there's no shortage of opinions where the top players will land.

This year's draft has a plethora storylines centered around the unpredictability at the top of the draft. Three players could be selected as the top pick, and one of those options, UConn's Donovan Clingan, has been listed by several mock drafts as low as ninth.

The Memphis Grizzlies are one of the most intriguing teams picking in the lottery. On talent alone, Memphis should not be drafting in this range. Previous to the 2023-24 season, the Grizzlies won 50 or more games and secured a top-two seed in the West in the previous two years. Injuries resulted in a No. 9 draft spot that could yield another strong rotation player.

As expected, mock drafts are all over the place on who the Grizzlies will select. In The Commercial Appeal's latest mock draft, Memphis traded up to the sixth spot to grab Clingan.

Here's a look at where notable draft pundits have Memphis going with its pick.

The Grizzlies get their guy

The Atheltic's latest mock has the Grizzlies trading up to No. 5 with the Detroit Pistons and landing Clingan. It's become increasingly clear that if the Grizzlies want to get Clingan, trading up will be necessary. Five and six are the most likely draft spots to make it happen.

Another wing?

ESPN has the Grizzlies selecting Colorado small forward Cody Williams and so does CBS Sports analyst Kyle Boone. Williams is the younger brother of Oklahoma City rising star Jalen Williams. The younger Williams has tantalizing tools and shot above 40% on 3-pointers as a freshman, but he's consider one of the riskier picks due to an inconsistent season.

Over at The Ringer, Memphis is selecting G League Ignite forward Ron Holland. While he's believed to be one of the more talented players in the class with elite athleticism tools, Holland had a high usage with the Ignite, and it's something that won't happen immediately in Memphis.

DRAFT NEEDS: The three biggest Memphis Grizzlies needs and potential player fits ahead of the NBA draft

Memphis grabs a shooter

Shooting is one of the Grizzlies' biggest needs, and that's where CBS sports' Gary Parrish and USA TODAY see Memphis taking advantage of the ninth pick. Parrish has Memphis selecting Providence guard Devin Carter, who is the son of Grizzlies assistant coach Anthony Carter. Devin is regarded as one of the better two-way talents available, and even though he is listed at 6-foot-3, he has a 6-8 wingspan. USA TODAY's choice of Tennessee wing Dalton Knecht is on brand for what Grizzlies general manager Zach Kleiman wants in a shooter. Knecht thrived as a movement shooter in college while also being one of the best scorers in the nation.
