Memphis Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane injures ankle, won't return to Clippers game

The Memphis Grizzlies' bad luck with injuries continued Friday, this time against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Desmond Bane left the game in the third quarter with an apparent left ankle injury after stepping on Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard's foot while driving to the basket.

Bane tried to walk off the injury but was clearly in discomfort and exited the game.

Leonard was called for a foul on the play. Because Bane was unable to shoot the subsequent free throws, he was unable to return for the rest of the game. GG Jackson was the Clippers' selected free-throw shooter, and he split the pair.

Bane was averaging a career-high 24.7 points and 5.4 assists per game in 37 games. He finished Friday's game with 15 points and three assists in 22 minutes.

The Grizzlies have had to deal with several major injuries this season. Just this week, Ja Morant was ruled out for the rest of the season because of a shoulder injury that required surgery. Marcus Smart is expected to miss six weeks with a ruptured tendon in his hand.

Santi Aldama and Derrick Rose also are among the injured Grizzlies players who were out for Friday's game.
