Memphis basketball vs USF is on, but fans encouraged to 'stay home' due to weather conditions
Memphis basketball's home game against South Florida will be played as scheduled Thursday.
But, since the ongoing winter storm is expected to cause road conditions to continue to deteriorate, the athletic department issued a news release encouraging fans "to stay home and cheer on the Tigers on ESPN." Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
According to the news release, should ticketholders elect not to attend tonight's game, they will be able to exchange tickets for another game this season. Further information regarding the ticket exchange will be communicated in the coming days.
Fans will be permitted to attend the 12th-ranked Tigers' (15-2, 4-0 AAC) home game against the Bulls (9-5, 2-1). But, the athletic department also announced limited concessions will be available and the terrace level will be closed. Fans with tickets in the terrace level will be allowed to sit in open seats in the plaza or club level.
MEMPHIS BASKETBALL: Why humans, computers can't agree on the Tigers? Bracketologists, analysts explain
Memphis and the Mid-South have been hit hard by a winter storm that first brought 4-6 inches of snow between Sunday and Monday. Many areas remain under a blanket of snow since temperatures have hovered at or below freezing since Sunday. On Thursday, icy roadways became more of an issue as freezing rain and drizzle fell on much of the Mid-South. Despite temperatures reaching more than 32 degrees Thursday afternoon, the temperature is expected to drop below freezing Thursday night causing whatever moisture still on the ground to re-freeze.
