Memphis basketball Tigers to meet, greet fans at FedEx St. Jude Championship

The tangible, fan-involved results of the Memphis Tigers-FedEx name, image and likeness (NIL) partnership will show up again next week.

With the FedEx St. Jude Championship serving as the backdrop at TPC Southwind, where 70 of the best golfers in the world will try to advance in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, some of the stars from the Memphis basketball team will also be on hand as an added bonus.

Dain Dainja, who will play center for coach Penny Hardaway in 2024-25 after transferring from Illinois, took to Instagram on Monday night to publicize the appearance. Dainja's post promises an opportunity for photos and autographs, as well as a promise that the first 150 fans will received "a signed mini-basketball."

Dainja and those Tigers who opt to join him will set up shop on the par-3 No. 14 (newly dubbed by tournament officials, "the Bluff at 14") from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Aug. 17. Fellow Tigers PJ Haggerty, Tyrese Hunter, Colby Rogers and Tyreek Smith are expected to join Dainja.

It won't be the first NIL activation Memphis sports stars have been part of in recent weeks. On July 20, Tigers quarterback Seth Henigan and more than a dozen of his teammates, as well as Memphis guard PJ Haggerty and several of his teammates held a meet-and-greet at AutoZone Park prior to and during a Memphis Redbirds game.
