Megan Rapinoe on winning before France's Pride Day: 'You can’t win championships without gays, that’s science'

The United States women’s national team has defeated its toughest challenger of the Women’s World Cup, and the moment officially belongs to Megan Rapinoe.

Just two days after months-old video resurfaced of Rapinoe’s profane dismissal of a White House visit in the event the USWNT wins the tournament, the midfielder delivered both goals in a 2-1 win over France.

After walking off the field a victor, Rapinoe seemed quite loose speaking with reporters. She even delivered an interesting analysis of team composition and an upcoming event for the World Cup host.

Rapinoe, who is in a relationship with WNBA star Sue Bird, didn’t exactly show her work there, but nobody’s going to cross her after what she just did to France.

The purple-haired star hasn’t backed down from her comments about the White House, including her saying “I’m not going to the f---ing White House” in a video recorded months ago and released Tuesday.

“I stand by the comments I made about not wanting to go to the White House, with the exception of the expletive – my mom would be very upset about that,” Rapinoe said during a press conference Thursday.

Even her legions of detractors, including President Donald Trump himself, criticizing her, Rapinoe said after the game the noise didn’t affect her one way or the other.

The USWNT still has plenty of work to do before its members can officially turn down the White House as World Cup champions, but, like it or not, it’s clearly been a profile-raising few weeks for Megan Rapinoe.
