Meet the Tuscaloosa News Super Five all-area high school boys basketball team for 2023-24
The Tuscaloosa News continues its tradition of honoring the top high school basketball players in West Alabama with its annual Super Five selections.
Here is the Super Five boys All-Tuscaloosa area team for the 2023-24 season, with coach of the year, second-team honorees and honorable mentions:
First team
Player of the Year: Adrian Wooley, Paul Bryant
Class: Sr.
Height: 6-5
Position: Guard
The back-to-back player of the year led Paul W. Bryant to a 6A-Area 6 regular season and area tournament championship along with a trip to the Class 6A Sweet 16. Wooley, a Kennesaw State men's basketball commit, averaged 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists per game in 2023-24 while also being a 1,000-career point scorer.
Emmanuel Clarton, Sumter Central
Class: Jr.
Height: 6-5
Position: Guard/forward
Clarton led Sumter Central to its second straight trip to the Class 3A Final Four and a 3A-Area 7 regular season and area tournament championship. He finished the season averaging 25.6 points, 7.6 assists and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Davis Dare, American Christian Academy
Class: Sr.
Height: 5-9
Position: Guard
Dare was a key member of an ACA team which made its first run in program history at a Class 4A state title. He averaged 21.4 points, 4.8 assists and 4.4 rebounds throughout the season and is also a 1,000-career point scorer.
John Walker, Northridge
Class: Sr.
Height: 6-5
Position: Forward
Walker averaged 13.6 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in 2023-24 for a Northridge team that finished the season 24-6. He also added 34 steals and 30 blocks.
Rafe Merriweather, Paul W. Bryant
Class: Sr.
Height: 6-4
Position: Forward
Merriweather averaged 14 points and nine rebounds throughout the season, along with reaching 1,000-career points during his high school career.

Coach of the year
Austin Grammer, American Christian Academy
Despite coming in five games into the season, interim head coach Austin Grammer led his alma mater to arguably the best season in school history. ACA won the 4A-Area 7 regular season and area tournament, along with making its first trip to the state championship game.
