Meet the 2026 Akron OL whose first Division I offer was from Ohio State football
Justin Frye has begun his search for offensive lineman in the 2026 class. And to start, he has focused on in-state prospects.
After extending an offer to offensive tackle Maxwell Riley out of Avon Lake March 7 after his freshman high school season, Frye turned to Akron native Sam Greer, a 6-foot-8, 290-pound offensive tackle from Archbishop Hoban High School.
And after visiting Ohio State Wednesday, Greer left with his first Division I offer.

"It means the world to me to be able and blessed to receive an offer from Ohio State as my first," Greer told The Dispatch.
He said Ohio State came on his radar during Archbishop Hoban basketball's playoff run, which beat Pickerington Central to win the OHSAA Division I boys basketball state title. And while he knew an offer would be coming from the Buckeyes eventually, he was surprised that it happened so quickly.
Greer said he left Columbus impressed with Frye.
"Justin Frye is a very knowledgeable person," Greer said. "So I learned a lot in just the day I was there."
Ohio State has had at least one Ohio offensive lineman in each recruiting class since 2018, including five in the past two recruiting classes: Tegra Tshabola, Avery Henry, Luke Montgomery, Austin Siereveld and Joshua Padilla.
Ohio State has already secured commitments from three in-state offensive linemen in 2024 — Marc Nave, Deontae Armstrong and Devontae Armstrong — while extending an offer to Carter Lowe out of Toledo in the 2025 class.
In terms of his relationship with Ohio State, Greer said his next steps would be "getting up there whenever I can" in the future.
As for his personal development, it starts with getting even bigger.
"The next step for me is hitting the weight room," Greer said, "working on my steps and techniques."
