Matt Rempe Teaching Adam Edström The Art Of Fighting

In the New York Rangers’ 6-5 loss to the Utah Hockey Club on Saturday night Adam Edström fought for the first time in his NHL career.

Standing at about 6’8’’, it would be expected that Edström is a good fighter, but he had to learn some tips and tricks from his teammate Matt Rempe who is no stranger to dropping the gloves.

“Yeah, I mean, I’ve talked to this guy,” Edström said, motioning over to Matt Rempe. “He knows what he’s doing out there. Just protect yourself whenever it happens.”

Edström perceived to topple over Jack McBain in his fight despite McBain being a way more experienced fighter.

It seems that Rempe’s skills are spreading to the whole locker room.

Through training camp, Edström earned a spot on the Rangers’ roster and so far, he’s played in the team’s two regular season games, becoming a staple on the fourth line.

The 24-year-old uses his big frame to position himself well offensively while also making an impact defensively, which is why Peter Laviolette has entrusted him to play in all of the games thus far.

Last season, Edström was with the Rangers for 11 games and he showed flashes of the kind of player he can ultimately become. Now he’s really putting everyone on notice that he is deserving of more than just a temporary role.
