Matt Rempe Expected To Play Big Role In AHL

The New York Rangers made a big decision on Thursday night to send Matt Rempe to the Hartford Wolf Pack.

This comes after Rempe played in just two out of the Rangers’ first seven games and averaged 5:39 minutes.

While this may seem like a demotion, Rangers coach Peter Laviolette believes this will benefit Rempe in the long run.

“He has an opportunity to play some games, and play some minutes, to continue his development. I think that’s really important for a young player. I think going down and playing more minutes, having more responsibility, builds growth inside of a player.”

Laviolette confirmed that Rempe will be in the lineup tonight for the Wolf Pack and should get a lot of minutes.

As much as this may upset fans, sending Rempe down is the best for his overall development.

There is just no way that The 22-year-old would have been able to blossom into the player he has the potential of ultimately becoming with the limited playing time he was receiving.

Rempe was not ready to be a true impactful forward in the NHL, but maybe being in the AHL and serving a substantial role will help better prepare him when the time comes to get back with the Rangers.
