Matt Rempe Expected to Play Against Capitals After Short AHL Stint

Matt Rempe is expected to play for the New York Rangers in their game against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night.

After getting sent down to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League earlier this week, Rempe was surprisingly called back up on Monday ahead of the team’s Washington matchup.

When asked about why he recalled Rempe, Peter Laviolette indicated he made the decision based on “what the team needs” for their upcoming game.

Rempe scored a goal and played an important physical role in New York’s playoff series against the Capitals last season, so it makes sense why Laviolette would want him to play.

During Monday’s practice, he took first reps with Sam Carrick and Adam Edström, which is a sign he’ll slide into the lineup on that fourth line

The 22-year-old’s stint in the AHL just lasted two games as it’s unclear if he’ll go back to Hartford.
