Maryland QB Tyrrell Pigrome out for season after injury vs. Texas
The list of quarterbacks who suffered season-ending injuries in Week 1 keeps growing.
Maryland coach D.J. Durkin said Tuesday that QB Tyrrell Pigrome tore his ACL in the Terrapins’ 51-41 win over Texas on Saturday. Pigrome will miss the rest of the season.
The sophomore injured his left knee in the third quarter. Before he got hurt he threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. Freshman quarterback Kasim Hill took over as the team’s quarterback following Pigrome’s injury.
Pigrome was 37-71 passing for 322 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions a year ago. He also had 254 rushing yards and four scores. Saturday, he was 9-12 passing for 175 yards and had 64 rushing yards.
Durkin also said defensive end and leading pass rusher Jesse Aniebonam would miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury as well. Aniebonam had 46 tackles and nine sacks in 2016.
Hill was the No. 4 pro-style quarterback and a four-star recruit in the class of 2017 according to Rivals. After entering for Pigrome, Hill was 3-3 passing for 44 yards and also had five carries for 14 yards and a touchdown.
In addition to Pigrome, Florida State QB Deondre Francois is out for the season with a torn patellar tendon in his left knee. Sunday, Texas A&M quarterback Nick Starkel suffered a broken left ankle. Georgia QB Jacob Eason also suffered a knee injury Saturday but the Bulldogs have said he’s week-to-week. He’ll miss Saturday’s game vs. Notre Dame.
