Marquette moves up in Associated Press men's basketball top 25 rankings after routing Texas and Notre Dame

The Marquette men's basketball team is inching back toward the top of the Associated Press top 25 rankings.

After a pair of blowout victories, the Golden Eagles landed at No. 7 in the poll that was released on Monday. That was a one-spot improvement from last week.

MU is also ranked seventh in the USA Today coaches poll.

Tyler Kolek is Big East player of week after dominating wins

Last week, the Golden Eagles blew out Texas, 86-65, on Wednesday at Fiserv Forum as part of the Big 12-Big East Battle.

Then on Saturday, MU started the game with a 17-0 run and ended up with a 78-59 victory over Notre Dame.

MU point guard Tyler Kolek averaged 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists in those two victories while shooting 70.8%. He was named the Big East's player of the week on Monday.

Who do the Golden Eagles play this week?

With MU students taking final exams, the Golden Eagles play just one game this week.

MU faces St. Thomas at 7 p.m. on Thursday night at Fiserv Forum. The Tommies made the jump to NCAA Division I in 2021.

Undefeated Marquette women's basketball team keeps ranking

The Golden Eagles (9-0) continued their best start in program history by beating Illinois State, 64-62, on Sunday in Normal, Illinois.

MU remained at No. 19 in this week's Associated Press women's poll.

Against the Redbirds, the Golden Eagles climbed out of an 11-0 hole. Liza Karlen had nine of her game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead three-pointer with 3:23 remaining.

MU starts Big East play against No. 20 Creighton at the Al McGuire Center on Wednesday.
