Mark Kingston fired by South Carolina baseball after seven seasons
COLUMBIA — South Carolina baseball coach Mark Kingston is out after seven seasons with the Gamecocks, the school announced on Monday.
Kingston finished at South Carolina with a 217-155 overall coaching record, 83-96 in the SEC. He led the Gamecocks to four NCAA tournament regionals and two super regionals.
Associate Head Coach/Recruiting Coordinator Monte Lee will serve as interim head coach. Lee was the head coach at Clemson for seven seasons.
This year, the Gamecocks lost in the NCAA regional to JMU on June 2 after failing to score any runs. The shutout marked the first earned all year for JMU and only the second time in 2024 the Gamecocks were held scoreless. In 2023, Kingston brought South Carolina to the super regionals but lost to Florida.
To end the regular season, South Carolina dropped six-straight games both in series sweeps.
Kingston was named the 30th head coach of South Carolina baseball on June 30, 2017. Before South Carolina, Kingston spent three years at USF where he guided the team to two NCAA regionals and one super regional. His first head coaching gig was at Illinois State where he coached five seasons. In 2019, Kingston was named as an assistant coach to the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.
As a player, Kingston won the ACC championship with North Carolina before being drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers out of North Carolina in 1992. He played five seasons in the MLB with Milwaukee and the Chicago Cubs.
