Williams hits milestone, OU women top Southern

Madi Williams scored 14 points to go over 2,000 points for her career, Ana Llanusa also scored 14 points and No. 24-ranked OU defeated Southern 76-50 on Sunday at Lloyd Noble Center in Norman.

Williams needed eight points to become the eighth player in OU history to reach 2,000 career points. She reached the milestone with a jumper at 3:26 of the second quarter.

Williams had seven rebounds and four assists and Liz Scott had 10 rebounds.

Llanusa scored nine points in the third quarter as the Sooners (9-1), who led 35-28 at halftime, finally went ahead by double digits against a team with only three wins this season.

Southern (3-7) shot 44% and trailed only 20-19 through the first quarter. OU shot 47% in the second quarter but had six turnovers and scored only 15 points.

The Sooners improved to 20-0 under coach Jennie Baranczyk in non-conference games vs. unranked opponents.

Williams joins teammate Taylor Robertson in the 2K club. They are presently the only two teammates in Division I with 2,000-plus points each.

Genovea Johnson led the Jaguars with 11 points. Southern had only 11 turnovers compared to 23 by OU but both teams scored 14 points off turnovers.

OSU women roll past UNLV

A dominant first half led to a convincing victory for the Oklahoma State women's basketball team on Sunday.

The Cowgirls defeated UNLV 87-62 at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, improving to 9-2 on the season.

OSU led 20-10 at the end of the first quarter and 41-20 at halftime.

OSU's Lior Garzon came off the bench and had a game-high 20 points. She was 8 of 11 from the field and 4 of 6 from behind the arc. Terryn Milton had 16 points, and Lexy Keys added 15.

With the loss, UNLV fell to 9-2.

Late Saturday: Thompson lifts OSU men over Wichita State

Bryce Thompson made a career-high five 3-pointers and scored 19 points, and Oklahoma State beat Wichita State 59-49 on Saturday night in Wichita, Kansas.

Thompson made a 3-pointer and Tyreek Smith made consecutive jumpers to give the Cowboys their largest lead, 50-36, midway through the second half. Thompson’s 3 made it 53-42 with 6:30 to play before Melvion Flanagan hit a pull-up jumper and two free throws, and Jaykwon Walton added two more from the free-throw line to pull the Shockers within 53-48 with 1:37 left. The Cowboys iced it from there, shooting 6 of 6 from the line.

Thompson was 7 of 17 from the field and had five assists. John-Michael Wright added 16 points with four 3-pointers for OSU (7-4).

Craig Porter Jr. scored 14 points for Wichita State (6-5), which shot 36.5% overall (19 of 52) and missed 20 of its 21 shots from long range.

The Cowboys scored the game's first 10 points and led 32-19 before the Shockers scored seven straight points to cut the deficit to 32-26 at the break.

NBA: Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers has a right foot injury that's expected to keep him sidelined for several weeks. That's according to a person with knowledge of the matter. The severity of the injury was still being determined Sunday and that was keeping the team from forming a specific timetable for his return. That's according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because neither Davis nor the Lakers had released any information publicly. Davis leads the Lakers with averages of 27.4 points and 12.1 rebounds per game.

• Former NBA star Amar'e Stoudemire is facing a misdemeanor battery charge after police say he punched his teenage daughter in the face. Court records show the former Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks star was arrested early Sunday, and later released on $1,500 bond. The Miami Herald says he was arrested at his Miami home. A police report obtained by the paper says he punched the girl after he accused her of being disrespectful to his mother during a phone call. Stoudemire has a both a 14-year-old and 17-year-old daughter.
