What Mack Brown said after UNC football’s loss to Clemson

The North Carolina Tar Heels are now 8-3 entering the final week of the 2023 regular season following a loss to Clemson on Saturday. It was another disappointing loss for the Tar Heels, holding a lead a then giving it up.

UNC couldn’t overcome the mistakes and penalties, allowing Clemson to grab the lead and really never look back.

Despite the defense doing a good job for the most part, UNC’s offense did struggle at times and when they really needed a scoring drive, they couldn’t get one.

As UNC gets ready to close out the regular season against NC State on the road, they will prepare for a red-hot Wolfpack team. But before we there, let’s look at what Mack Brown said after the loss on Saturday.

On if he felt like UNC should have been up more early

“Yes, told the kids that at halftime — we should have been up 21-0. Hard to overcome that deficit.”

On if it reminded him of ACC title game

“It was probably a lot like that. I thought we battled them better tonight. The game was better tonight. We had a better chance to win tonight than in that game, but we we gave up on interception for a touchdown, fumble at the 24 yard line, and had a block field goal last year. So you can not do the things we did last year or this year to beat a great team like Clemson.”

On refueling from one emotional game to another

“It’s got to be the culture that you’ve got, the toughness that they’ve got. I thought they really showed resilience and were tough tonight because they couldn’t just lay down and quit at times, a lot of things were going against them. That’s why I’m so proud of their effort. Not proud of how we play, but I’m proud of the effort that we played with.”

On Omarion Hampton

“… He’s been great with the ball. That’s why my hair is gray. Coaching is a little crazy. I love him. He rushed for what 178 yards tonight, so we probably wouldn’t have had a chance in the game if it hadn’t been for him, and this will make him go back and prepare better for next week.”

On if Nate Wiggins was out of bounds

“It wasn’t a favorable night for us with reviews. Let’s just put it that way.”
