'I’m coming home': Texas native Taylor Jones joins Longhorns after Oregon State transfer
After three years out west, Taylor Jones is moving back to the Lone Star State.
Jones, a 6-foot-4 forward, announced on Saturday that she plans to transfer to Texas. She grew up in Forney, attended Dallas Christian and spent the past three seasons at Oregon State.
Jones is the first player to transfer to Texas this offseason. She will join three freshmen among UT’s newcomers next season.
"Excited for this next chapter! It’s official, I’m coming home," Jones posted on her Instagram account.
Back in high school, Jones was rated by ESPN HoopGurlz as the No. 43 prospect in the recruiting class of 2019. Before signing with Oregon State, she reportedly considered scholarship offers she received from both Texas and Mississippi State, which was coached by Vic Schaefer.
Years later, she'll play basketball for Schaefer at Texas.
Jones missed much of this past season with a shoulder injury. As a sophomore, she averaged 12.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game and earned all-conference honors. Her 60 blocks led the Pac-12 during the 2019-20 season.
Jones joins a Texas team that currently lacks depth among its post players. After losing Lauren Ebo and Latasha Lattimore to the transfer portal, Texas had only three players on its roster who were taller than six feet.
DeYona Gaston (6-2) and Aaliyah Moore (6-1) did see significant playing time this past winter as Texas reached the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament. The shortest of UT's three signees is Jordana Codio, a 6-1 guard.
