Lyon County basketball star Travis Perry, state's leading scorer, commits to Kentucky

Travis Perry, the leading scorer in Kentucky high school boys basketball history, announced his commitment to Kentucky on Sunday.

Perry, a 6-foot-2 senior guard at Lyon County High School, had more than 20 scholarship offers from NCAA Division I schools. He recently narrowed his list to Alabama, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Mississippi and Western Kentucky.

A consensus four-star prospect, Perry is the third commit in UK coach John Calipari's 2024 class and the second in less than a month. Point guard Boogie Fland gave his pledge last month, joining center Somto Cyril, who became the first commit of the class in June.

With Perry in the fold, Kentucky's class rose 15 spots in the 247Sports Composite rankings, moving from No. 21 to No. 6.

Perry is the No. 80 player nationally in the 2024 cycle, per the 247Sports Composite.

Perry joined the Lyon County varsity team as a seventh-grader and has 4,359 career points. During last season’s Sweet 16, he passed previous record holder “King” Kelly Coleman, who amassed 4,337 points during four seasons (1952-56) at Wayland High School.

Perry scored 638 points as a seventh-grader, 852 as an eighth-grader, 709 as a freshman, 990 as a sophomore and 1,170 as a junior.

He is also the state’s career leader in 3-pointers made with 528, passing the previous record of 463 set by Sheldon Clark’s Dylan James.

Perry was named the Gatorade Kentucky Player of the Year and enters his senior season as the front-runner for Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball award. He has earned Courier Journal All-State honors four straight years — first-team as a sophomore and junior, third-team as a freshman and honorable-mention as an eighth-grader.
