LSU women's basketball drops 2nd straight SEC game, falls at Mississippi State
LSU women's basketball missed 10 straight shots, spanning the last five minutes of the third quarter Monday night.
Do to their ability to get to the foul line and make free throws, the No. 9 Tigers kept up and had chances to cut the deficit to a one-possession game. But Mississippi State had other ideas as Jerkaila Jordan and Debreasha Powe knocked down big 3's that stretched the lead to 63-57.
LSU couldn't contain State's outside shot as it lost its second straight Southeastern Conference game, falling at Mississippi State, 77-73, inside Humphrey Coliseum.
LSU women's basketball's 3-point defense catches up to it at Mississippi State
It's been a problem for much of this season, but the Tigers (18-4, 5-3) have been able to mask it by having more talent and making open shots.
On Monday, Kim Mulkey's squad missed wide-open shots and the 3-point defensive issues rose to the surface against State. The Bulldogs made 9-of-17 three-pointers, while the Tigers went 2-for-8.
Darrione Rogers hit a game-high four 3's, while Jordan knocked down three and Powe made a pair. Mississippi State made six 3's in the second half.
LSU's backcourt struggles to contain Jerkaila Jordan, Mississippi State's guards
State erased a five-point halftime deficit a few minutes into the third quarter and the biggest reason was the play of Jordan. The Mississippi State point guard dropped 12 points in the third quarter alone, shooting 4-for-4 from the field including knocking down two 3's.
LSU has had some issues guarding and containing guards who can put the ball on the field and shoot this season. Those struggles reared their head again in Starkville.
Jordan finished with 24 points, while Rogers had 18 and Mjracle Sheppard had 12 points as Mississippi State shot 53% from the field.

LSU trailed by nine points with less than four minutes remaining and Mulkey wanted the ball go inside to the team's best player.
Angel Reese, who finished with 20 points and 18 rebounds, scored three points in the final stretch and had an assist as she drew all of State's attention.
But the efforts were too little, too late as the team missed a boatload of wide open shots throughout the game and State couldn't miss.
