LSU women's basketball cooks Texas A&M in SEC road tilt
Kim Mulkey and LSU women's basketball easily dissected where they had the biggest advantage over Texas A&M. And they exploited it early and often and more importantly, with efficiency.
Star forwards Angel Reese and Aneesah Morrow scored 12 of the team's first 15 points as the Tigers bested the Aggies in the paint all-night long en route to taking them down, 81-58, inside Reed Arena in College Station.
No. 13 LSU (22-4, 9-4) have won four straight Southeastern Conference games and the win keeps an outside chance of capturing the SEC regular season championship alive. It would need No. 1 South Carolina to lose the rest of its regular season games.
Kim Mulkey said LSU women's basketball worked on defense over idle week. It worked.
After two quarters of play, A&M mustered 14 points on LSU. The Tigers gave up four points in the second quarter alone. The Aggies went 2-of-18 in the second period and 7-for-35 in the first half.
LSU forced 14 turnovers and prevented A&M from getting out and running, a much-improved transition defense. Mulkey said she worked with her team on this past week, which resulted in allowing two fastbreak points.
The Tigers had success jumping passes and protecting the rim most of the game, which allowed it to build a 30-point lead.
Angel Reese, Aneesah Morrow, Aalyah Del Rosario handle Texas A&M's post
In a 17-second span in the second quarter, LSU freshman center Aalyah Del Rosario blocked three shots from A&M center Lauren Ware.
That stretch was a microcosm of how the night for Reese, Morrow and Del Rosario went against Texas A&M's bigs on both ends of the floor. Defensively, LSU held Aggie sophomore star forward Janiah Barker and Ware to 25 combined points on 11-of-25 shooting.
Reese did find herself in foul trouble in the third quarter, having to sit for several minutes, but even without her on the floor, the Tigers' bigs easily carried the torch.
Morrow and Reese finished with double-doubles. Morrow scored a game-high 25 points with 14 rebounds, while Reese had 13 points and 10 boards. Del Rosario played well, recording four points.

Flau'jae Johnson has big game for LSU
It's hard to pin down which aspect of LSU star Flau'jae Johnson's performance against Texas A&M was the most impressive.
On defense, Johnson limited A&M's top scorer, Aicha Coulibaly to 14 points, six through the first three quarters, on 6-of-14 from the field.
Johnson led the way offensively for the Tigers most of the game. She had 20 points, scoring in a variety of ways in knocking down a pair of 3's, off of turnovers while taking defenders off the dribble in the halfcourt set.
