LSU women's basketball bracketology: Are Kim Mulkey's Tigers locked in as No. 4 seed?
LSU women's basketball clocked in at No. 14 overall in the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee's first Top 16 reveal last Thursday, meaning if Selection Sunday were that day, it would've been a No. 4 seed.
Kim Mulkey and the Tigers (22-4, 9-3 SEC) have a couple of bad losses on its resumé, mainly at Auburn, that has made the climb back up the ladder in the committee's as well as bracketologists' eyes much harder.
But is No. 4 seed the best LSU can do right now, with four games remaining in the regular season?
A glance at a few different NCAA Tournament projections suggest that's where the Tigers stand, with a 66th overall strength of schedule ranking and 286th nonconference strength of schedule. LSU's resume is a tad more complicated than those less than desirable numbers as it has a top-9 NET rankings and boasts a winning record in Quad 1 games at 5-4.
The thing that projectionists can't agree on with LSU as of today is which region the team will be seeded in.
Let's look at the most up-to-date projections:
ESPN: 4 seed (Portland 4)
ESPN's Charlie Creme has LSU on the 3-line last week but has dropped Mulkey's team back down to a No. 4 seed after the selection committee's reveal. He has them in the Portland 4 region in his updated bracketology Tuesday morning. LSU would host No. 13 Cleveland State and then face the winner of No. 5 Notre Dame and No. 12 Florida Gulf Coast. No. 1 Iowa would likely await the Tigers in the Sweet 16 in Portland that would set up a highly anticipated NCAA championship rematch.
Her Hoop Stats: 4 seed (Albany 3)
Her Hoop Stats' projections came out the same night as the committee's top 16 but it's likely nothing has changed in Megan Gauer's eyes regarding the Tigers. She lists LSU as a No. 4 seed in the Albany 3 region. LSU would open things up against No. 13 Toledo in Baton Rouge before meeting the winner of No. 5 Utah and No. 12 South Dakota State. The Tigers could meet No. 1 Ohio State in the Sweet 16 in Albany, New York.
The Athletic: 4 seed (Albany 2)

The Athletic has dipped its toe in the NCAA Tournament women's bracketology game and in its second log of projections has LSU set to be in the Albany 2 region as a No. 4 seed. The Tigers would host No. 13 Ball State before possibly a story lines matchup with No. 5 Louisville in the second round, pitting LSU guard Hailey Van Lith against her former team. The Athletic has a potential Sweet 16 matchup with No. 1 Ohio State on the docket as well.
