LSU football got response from SEC on South Carolina's blocked punt. What the SEC said

BATON ROUGE — LSU football received a response from the Southeastern Conference's officiating office on the footage of the blocked punt South Carolina had during their game Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium.

During the second quarter, LSU punter Peyton Todd lined up to punt from his own 41-yard line. South Carolina's Maurice Brown rushed up the middle after the snap and appeared to have leapt over the blockers in front of the kick to get a hand on the ball. Buddy Mack recovered the loose ball at the LSU 26 and returned it 16 yards down to the 10.

"The response was, the leaping took place outside the framework of the body of, in this instance, (Bo) Bordelon who was the shield," LSU football coach Brian Kelly said during his weekly SEC teleconference appearance Wednesday morning. "If it takes place outside the framework, and the framework is characterized as shoulder pad to shoulder pad, then leaping is allowed.

CADEN DURHAM After two TDs at South Carolina, did Caden Durham do enough to be LSU football's RB1?

"We agree to disagree that it took place outside the framework of the body. We accept, I guess, the verdict and we move on."

Kelly said after the game Saturday that LSU would reach out to the SEC office about the play as he believed it a penalty that should've been called in the game.

Per the NCAA rulebook, the statute states "it is a foul if a defensive player who in inside the tackle box tries to block a punt by leaving his feet and leaping into the plane directly above the frame of the body of an opponent."

At the time of the blocked punt, South Carolina was able to immediately score on the ensuing play, a 10-yard touchdown run by Raheim Sanders to go up 17-0 with early in the second quarter.

The blocked punt ultimately did not affect the outcome of the game as the Tigers stormed back to take the lead 36-33 with 1:12 remaining on a 2-yard touchdown run by senior tailback Josh Williams.

Officiating crew members for the LSU-South Carolina game were Jason Autrey, who was the white hat, Jason Yates, Ryan Hagan, Colin Gaynor, Andy Britton, Ryan Flynn, Peter Buchanan, Chris Snead and Mitchell Wilkens.
