LSU basketball makes NIT, set to play North Texas in first round

Despite missing the NCAA Tournament, LSU basketball will still play in the postseason this year. The Tigers accepted a spot in the NIT late Sunday night.

The 4-seed Tigers will host defending NIT champions North Texas in the first round. This is LSU's first postseason appearance in any tournament under second-year coach Matt McMahon as well as the Tigers' first postseason appearance since losing to Iowa State in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

This is the ninth appearance in the NIT in program history. The Tigers most recently made the NIT in 2018, clinching the third seed in the Saint Mary's bracket. That year, LSU beat No. 6 Louisiana in Baton Rouge in the first round but lost to No. 2 Utah in Salt Lake City in the second.
