The wait is over.

LSU baseball opens up the 2024 season against VMI at Alex Box Stadium Friday afternoon (2 p.m. CT, SEC Network+). It rounds out opening weekend with four total games, facing Central Arkansas Saturday (1 p.m. CT), VMI Sunday (1 p.m. CT) and wrapping up Monday versus Central Arkansas (2 p.m. CT).

Tigers coach Jay Johsnon is rolling with junior right-hander Thatcher Hurd as the Opening Day starter. Hurd came on strong for LSU last season during its run to the College World Series championship.

He won the title-deciding Game 3 against Florida, going six hits and only giving up a pair of runs.

Friday will also mark the first time Tiger fans will get to see some of the touted transfers and freshmen like South Carolina transfer shortstop Michael Braswell, Arizona graduate transfer Mac Bingham along with freshman Jake Brown and possibly freshman relief pitcher Cam Johnson.
