LSU baseball: New indoor hitting center among facility upgrades on Jay Johnson's wishlist

BATON ROUGE — LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson is looking to make facility upgrades for his program, and his No. 1 priority is to build an indoor hitting center, Johnson said on Wednesday.

"I want to build a new indoor hitting center with an indoor infield for when we have rainy days, we don't miss a beat," Johnson said to the media ahead of LSU's first fall scrimmage on Thursday.

Johnson also wants to transform LSU's batting cages into a "full pitching lab," adding that LSU is working toward raising the funds necessary to turn that idea into a reality.

"I think it's one that will take a long time to turn around but we've got to get the money to do it," Johnson said. "And in college athletics, that's a hard thing right now."

The defending national champions will begin its fall scrimmage schedule on Thursday beginning at 7 p.m. at Alex Box Stadium. LSU will also hold scrimmages at 5 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
